Design for transport.
Parsec Voyager seating system.
The problem: User research suggested that commuter parents found it difficult to transport their children and their belongings in a traditional cargo trailer set up. Although there are many types of child restraining trailers on the market, once they had reached their useful life they became obsolete and did not meet requirements of a busy active family beyond pre-school.
The solution was a seating system which enables users to transport small children in their traditional cargo trailer with a system that connected directly to the trailer. Users can quickly interchange between cargo only, one passenger or two passengers providing options depending on their specific needs. Base plates connect the uprights to the seat base with a locking clip system, while a forward quick release button enables the user not the child to release the components.
The seat back activates by pressing two side buttons simultaneously tilting the seat back forward, creating space for larger objects and opportunities to tie loads in place. The extruded aluminium seat frame, engineered uprights and base plates provide strength for human occupants up to 25 kilograms. The child is secured to the seat with a three point seat harness with adjustable straps to support the child during transport.
