Intro
I’m Michael Morgan, an industrial designer, open to new opportunities in Australasia.
The design journey thus far has been full of resilience building challenges along with exposure to several completely different industries which culminate in a vast range of experiences that I have used to reinforce my creative process.
Ever since I was a young boy I have always enjoyed figuring out how things work, how they’re made and the process of making things, quite often I would be in a shed or workshop crafting objects or physically ideating.
During the course of my career I have worked within a number of industries from agriculture, environmental revegetation, cheese making to professional services and business development. These experiences have taught me how to interact with a very diverse range of people and collaborate on a multitude of projects and deliverables.
The problem solving nature of design didn’t fully come into my focus until I began directly working with designers. A massive influence on my perspective of design was my time at Isthmus Group, where I was exposed to the collaborative and problem solving nature of design. This was the foundation that allowed me to form an understanding of design thinking and how the design process isn’t always linear. After three years with Isthmus Group I was head hunted to work with Warren & Mahoney leading their business development efforts to expand their operating environment in New Zealand and Australia.
After reevaluating my career goals soon after the covid19 pandemic calmed down, I committed to and enrolled in a three year bachelor of design degree at Auckland University of Technology, which began in early 2022 and ended in November 2024. Studying as a mature adult was a huge commitment both from a financial point of view and a lifestyle perspective. Balancing study, work and the arrival of child number two in early 2023 created an even more challenging environment with the duality of building more resistance and efficiency in my project management and work flow.
With studies completed, I have graduated with a bachelor of design majoring in Industrial design with a minor in Digital Fabrication.
Now based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches I am looking for my next challenge to continue my passion for creating products and delivering conceptually distinctive human-centric solutions.
